About the Tour:

The splitboarding traverse in the Tatras is designed for advanced and durable riders who love spending time in the mountains. During this 4-day expedition, we won’t descend! We will move on the splitboard, enjoy epic descents, and spend the nights in mountain huts. The traverse plan includes traveling from Dolina ChochoÅ‚owska to Dolina Rybiego Potoku, with overnight stays in huts. Participants will cover around 4000 meters of elevation gain and 40 km over the 4 days.

 

What can I expect during the tour?

  • Many kilometers of ascents and descents

  • Varied landscapes

  • Discussion of avalanche and weather reports

  • Assessment of weather and avalanche conditions

  • Proper planning and adjusting of the tour route

  • Refresher on avalanche rescue basics and the use of avalanche safety gear

  • Ascent into high mountain areas of the Tatras using ski crampons, ice axes, and sometimes a climbing harness

  • Nights in mountain huts – full of social integration

Is this course for me?

The course is for anyone who:

  • Rides a snowboard and has no trouble descending red and black slopes,

  • Has significant experience in splitboarding and freeriding, feels comfortable with high exposure but lacks experience in navigation and planning high-mountain tours,

  • Has the stamina for approximately 5-6 hours of ascent with a backpack, covering over 1000 meters of elevation per day,

  • Has completed avalanche training,

  • Owns the NECESSARY EQUIPMENT.

Tour Program:

Day 1: SUNDAY
5:00 PM: Filling in any missing equipment (Kiry 11 – KoÅ›cielisko)
6:00 PM: Meeting at the parking lot at Siwa Polana and a joint hike to the Chochołowska Valley Hut.

 

Day 2: MONDAY
Full-day splitboard tour, ending with an overnight stay at the Hala Ornak Hut.

 

Day 3: TUESDAY
Full-day splitboard tour, ending with an overnight stay at the Kalatówki Hut.

 

Day 4: WEDNESDAY
Full-day splitboard tour, ending with an overnight stay at the Dolina PiÄ™ciu Stawów Hut.

 

Day 5: THURSDAY
Splitboard tour in the Dolina PiÄ™ciu Stawów area and descent to the Morskie Oko Hut.
Transport from Palenica Białczańska to the parking lot at Siwa Polana (Dolina Chochołowska). Return to base and equipment return.

Required Equipment:

  • Avalanche safety kit (transceiver, probe, and shovel)

  • Splitboard with matching skins

  • Snowboard/splitboard boots

  • Telescopic poles

  • Mountain backpack (25-35 liters) with the possibility of attaching the board

  • Crampons, ice axe, and ski crampons

  • Ski touring helmet

  • Headlamp

 

Insurance:

The price of the course does not include insurance. The traverse route runs on the Polish side of the Tatras, but we may also end up in Slovakia. TOPR services are free, but the Horská Záchranná Služba charges for their services. Therefore, every participant should have health and rescue insurance (KLiA) for abroad. Annual plans, such as PZU Safe Return or Alpenverein, are good options and work well for ski trips or other high-risk sports.

We also recommend purchasing additional cancellation insurance (including Covid-19 cases), which Allianz offers during registration.

  • Equipment rental

  • Meals (except for breakfast in the Kalatówki Hut)

  • Insurance

  • Entry tickets to TPN National Park

  • Parking fees at Siwa Polana (15-20 PLN/day/car)
