About the Course:

​

The course is designed for groups of up to 5 people or individuals who can snowboard but would like to start their adventure with splitboarding and freeriding. During the training, you will learn the basics of using a splitboard, how to move efficiently on gentle and slightly steeper slopes, and the fundamental principles of mountain safety.

 

What will I learn during the course?

​

  • How to read avalanche and weather reports

  • How to handle a splitboard

  • How to mount, remove, and store climbing skins

  • Basics of avalanche rescue and how to use avalanche safety gear (beacon, probe, shovel)

  • Uphill techniques and riding in varied terrain

  • Traversing techniques to navigate steep sections

 

Is this course for me?

​

The course is suitable for anyone, regardless of age, who:

  • Can snowboard and has no trouble riding down red and black slopes

  • Has the fitness to hike for about 3-4 hours with a backpack, covering an elevation gain of 500-1000 m

  • Possesses the NECESSARY EQUIPMENT

​Course Schedule:

 

Day 1:

  • Planning a splitboarding trip and assessing conditions

  • Interpreting avalanche and weather reports

  • Handling splitboarding equipment

  • Mounting, removing, and storing climbing skins

  • Uphill, traversing, and descent techniques

  • Basics of avalanche rescue and first aid

 

Day 2:

  • Independent route planning

  • Track setting and efficient ascent techniques

  • Using crampons and an ice axe – practical exercises

  • Mountain navigation with a map and GPS

  • Safe freeriding – off-piste riding

 

Where does the course take place?

​

We start in Kościelisko, Kiry 11.
There, we pack the prepared equipment and go through the theoretical part of the course.
Then, we head into the picturesque Tatra valleys – depending on conditions, either the Polish or Slovak Tatras. Therefore, it's recommended to have travel insurance covering extreme sports.

 

When does the course take place?

​

The course runs from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (or until your legs give out) over two pre-arranged days (usually on weekends). You can check available dates HERE.

 

What is included in the course price?

​

  • Guidance from a licensed instructor

  • Splitboarding training

  • Rental of necessary equipment: splitboard, climbing skins, bindings, poles, crampons, ice axe, and avalanche safety gear (beacon, probe, shovel)

 

What is not included in the course price?

​

  • Accommodation

  • Accident insurance

  • Entrance fee to Tatra National Park (TPN)

  • Transportation costs

  • Lift tickets

  • Meals

  • Other necessary mountain touring equipment
